    Senate committee substitute makes the following changes to the 2nd edition.

    Amends the language of the bill to provide that the coroner of Cleveland County, after giving preference to physicians licensed to practice medicine in this state, can also appoint assistant coroners as medical examiners in Cleveland County, in addition to the previously specified categories of individuals. Deletes language that allowed the appointment of any other individuals deemed qualified by the chief medical examiner.

    Requires the elected Coroner of Cleveland County, instead of the Chief Medical Examiner, to appoint medical examiners in Cleveland County. Makes conforming and clarifying changes.

    Requires the chief medical examiner to give preference to physicians licensed to practice medicine in this State when appointing medical examiners in Cleveland County but allows appointing licensed physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, coroners, emergency medical technician‑paramedics, and individuals deemed qualified and recommended by a duly elected coroner.
